How to Plan a Maasai Mara Safari That Fits Your Travel Style
How to Plan a Maasai Mara Safari That Fits Your Travel Style

The best Maasai Mara itinerary is not automatically the longest or most expensive. It is the one that matches your pace, comfort, group and wildlife priorities.

Start with the experience

Choose between a classic lodge base, a smaller conservancy camp, a private vehicle or a shared game-drive programme. Families often value a private vehicle for flexible stops; photographers may prefer longer drives and fewer lodge changes.

Allow enough time

Three nights gives most travellers two full safari days without turning the journey into a race. Add a night when travelling by road from Nairobi, combining conservancies, or visiting with children.

Road or air?

  • Road: better value for groups and useful when combining Naivasha or Narok.
  • Flight: saves time and gives a striking view of the Rift Valley and plains.
  • Mixed: travel in by road and fly out when the wider route supports it.

What to compare before booking

Check whether park or conservancy fees, transfers, meals, drinks, laundry, shared drives and airstrip pickups are included. Ask about luggage limits on light aircraft and child policies before payment.
