Flying East Africa With Children: A Calm, Practical Checklist
Flying East Africa With Children: A Calm, Practical Checklist

Regional flights can turn a long road day into an easy connection, but family bookings need accurate passenger ages, baggage planning and realistic transfer time.

Book every traveller correctly

Use the child’s travel age on each flight date. Enter names exactly as shown on the required identification and confirm whether an infant travels on an adult’s lap or needs a seat.

Know which aircraft you are booking

Large regional jets and smaller safari aircraft can have very different baggage rules. Soft-sided bags may be required on bush flights, and weight limits can apply to the whole bag rather than each item.

Build breathing room

  • Do not place an independent regional connection immediately after a long-haul arrival.
  • Allow time for immigration, baggage collection and terminal changes.
  • Confirm child seats for the road transfer at both ends.

Keep essentials accessible

Carry medicines, a change of clothes, snacks allowed by the carrier, wipes, documents and one quiet activity in cabin baggage. Keep power banks in the correct baggage according to airline rules.

Before paymentReview the fare rules for every passenger, not only the lead adult. Child fares, baggage and change conditions can differ.
